You know those crazy coincidences? Like the really crazy ones? When something happens that is so unbelievably and hilariously strange and coincidental that you need to share it with someone, even though you know they won’t believe you? And they won’t appreciate it as much anyway, because they weren’t there when it happened?
Well indulge me for a second.
Michael Showalter was at my school’s bookstore today for a book signing. Awesome, I know. He had people give him random numbers and he would read an excerpt from that page of the book. One of the readings he did was from the “About the Author” section (not to be confused with the next two sections: “Aboot the Author (Canadian version)” and “About Bea Arthur” which is exactly what it says it is.) The excerpt went something like this:
Name: Michael Showalter
Age: 40
Mental Age: 14
Physical Age: 77
Favorite Color: Magenta (It’s like “magic” plus “polenta”.)
Favorite Word: Twine (It’s like “magic” plus “twine”. Minus “magic”.)
It’s even funnier when it’s read to a small crowd in a bookstore in Michael Showalter’s voice.
Cut to: Ten minutes ago. I get back from class and open my email to find the midterm exam for my Cinematography class. I start reading through the questions, when something stops me. Question number seven, under the section on color, is this:
7. ( ) + ( ) = MAGENTA
I shit you not. The answer he’s looking for is “‘Red’ plus ‘Blue’”, but this is going to be the hardest I’ve ever fought myself to keep from deliberately submitting a wrong answer.
Anyone else have a crazy coincidence story that nobody else will appreciate?
